The Boat Shop Asia is a training academy that provides educational and training services for the pleasure craft community. The academy offers a comprehensive range of courses for learners to start on their boating journey by allowing them to obtain a license by the governing bodies to drive a boat in Singapore or overseas. These courses will provide them the avenue to hone their boating skills, increase their knowledge, competency, and confidence to drive a boat on their own.

The Boat Shop Asia was established in Singapore in 2013, and we now have expanded our academy to Penang & Port Klang - Malaysia.

Over 5000 learners have signed up and completed their boating course with TBSA, conducted by our certified trainers who have shared their nautical knowledge and experiences to those who are keen to have a boating skill.

5 Marinas

We have boats in 5 different marinas in Singapore and Malaysia and are working to expand our charter services to more marinas.

14 Boats

We have a number of boats for bareboat/self-drive charter ranging from Glastrons to Searays and QuickSilvers. As the QuickSilver distributor, we have the widest range of quicksilver boats for charter in the region.

Took my PPCDL course here and found the instructors very knowledgeable and the notes very comprehensive. Passed my theory on 1st try and all I did was to do the “10 year series” on their website before the test. Also did refresher with Maj Lim a week as well as 2 days before the test. Definitely helped in me getting a perfect berthing comment from the tester. Passed on the 1st attempt too. I will recommend everyone to do a refresher just before your test and please book a 2 hour slot for your 1st refresher. I made the mistake of doing a 1 hour session and it was too short for me to go through all the checks (which can easily take 20mins or so). Try and book it about a week before so that if you need more practice, you have time to book a 2nd or even 3rd session before your test. Overall very glad to have taken my course here. Eric is an awesome trainer. He retired from teaching and have since taken up training part time with The Boat Shop Asia. Super patient and very good at coaching indeed. Spots mistakes.quickly and helps you correct them. Gotta look for Eric if you need someone to guide you.

Kelvin Lim

I have worked with Cpt Salim and Major Lim Soon Lai. They both had slightly different styles in teaching, but both taught in details. To me, they both complimented my learning journey. What I like is that they don't just tell you what to do, but also explain to you the logic of how if works. And most important is Mjr Lim taught me how to feel the boat. Mjr Lim gave a detailed list of the procedure to check for the boat and things to look out for. My passing of test really have to thank both of them.

They were patient in explaining the techniques and steps required to perform Man Overboard, Berthing and Unberthing correctly. Definitely go for MAJOR LIM SOON LAI at RSYC! I would highly recommend Major Lim for your refresher course instructor before taking the practical test. I passed my practical test FIRST ATTEMPT without any demerit points, all credits goes to Major Lim! Without him, i probably have to retake the second test one month later. PS: He has tips to help you on your oral test, GOOD LUCK!
